Amplitude bases in generic EFTs

Abstract: We present for the first time an efficient algorithm to find a basis of kinematically independent structures built of (massless and massive) spinor helicity variables in four dimensions. This method provides a classification of independent contact terms for the scattering amplitudes with generic masses, spins, and multiplicity in any effective field theory (EFT). These contact terms are in one-to-one correspondence with a complete set of irrelevant operators in the EFT. As basic applications of our method, we … Show more

“…They helped uncovering positivity constraints [53][54][55], non-interferences between renormalisable and dimension-six amplitudes [56], and non-renormalisation theorems between higherdimensional operators [57][58][59][60][61]. They provided an alternative means of computing anomalous dimensions [62][63][64][65][66][67][68][69][70], of constructing SMEFT operator bases [71][72][73][74][75][76][77] as well as broken-phase massive amplitudes [78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86].…”

“…In recent years, effective field theories such as standard model effective theory (SMEFT) [1302,1303] or Higgs effective theory (HEFT) [1304,1305,1306,1307] have become a standard tools for deriving largely model-independent constraints on heavy new particles [1308,1309,1310,1311,1312,1313]. There has also been significant effort to develop techniques to model-independently constrain light new particles.…”
