An Absorption Assessment of Eggshell Calcium Citrate Treated by PEF in Mice

Abstract: Eggshell calcium citrate (ESCC) prepared by pulsed electric field (PEF) may be a new calcium resource to help treat and prevent calcium deficiency. An absorption assessment of ESCC prepared by PEF was performed in male mice with apparent calcium absorption. Compared with control group, ESCC prepared by PEF at doses of 133.0 mg/(kg•d) significantly improved the alkalinity phosphatase (ALP) activity (P < 0.05) and decreased the levels of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) (P < 0.05). The ratio of c… Show more

“…Moreover, the citrate ions, which can be released from CCT, are conducive to the formation of hydroxyapatite (HA) in vivo [18][19][20]. Furthermore, a previous study with Japanese white rabbits concluded that CCT could positively stimulate fracture healing in the early stages when defects were not yet too severe [21,22]. Thus, the combination of both CSD and CCT is an effective strategy for developing bone repair materials with good therapeutic properties.…”

“…Furthermore, a previous study with Japanese white rabbits concluded that it could positively stimulate fracture healing in early stages when defects are not yet too severe. 4,5 Additionally, Wei et al 6 demonstrated that combined with recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2), it obviously enhanced bone regeneration in bone defects. However, the main drawbacks associated with it include poor formability and washout resistance.…”
