An Access Route to Polyferrocenes via Modular Conjugation

Abstract: The application of copper‐catalyzed azide/alkyne cycloaddition to monomers containing a ferrocene unit leads to polyferrocenes with ferrocene in the backbone. Catalyst performance and kinetic studies of a model system comprising 1,1'‐bis(azidoethyl)ferrocene and propargyl ether revealed the usage of CuI and DBU as the catalyst in DMF at 50 °C as efficient reaction conditions for the synthesis. The resulting polymers display molecular weight‐averages up to $\overline {M} _{{\rm n}} $ = 10 000 and $\overline {M}… Show more

“…The obtained products, which were fine crystals, were recrystallized by n ‐heptane (6.24 g, yield = 89%) (Table ). The pure product synthesized by our modified procedure was confirmed by comparison with the existing literature . (m.p = 123°C‐127°C).…”

“…With the enthusiastic efforts paid by polymer chemists, the azide–alkyne click reaction has been developed into an efficient polymerization reaction, that is, click polymerization, for the preparation of functional polytriazoles with linear and hyperbranched structures . We and others have recently synthesized several ferrocene‐based linear polytriazoles by the azide–alkyne click polymerizations . However, ferrocene‐based polytriazoles with hyperbranched structures have been rarely reported.…”

“…As demonstrated by Barner-Kowollik et al, the Cu(I)-catalyzed AACP of Fc-containing diazides and diynes readily furnished Fc-containing polytriazoles (PTAs) (P31) with high molecular weights (M w up to 78 000 g mol -1 ) in 6 h (Scheme 13) [66].…”
