An Adaptive Traffic Light Control Scheme and its Implementationin WSN-Based ITS

Abstract: Subsequently, the optimal traffic light length can be determined according to the local traffic and predicted traffic data. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can achieve much higher performance, in terms of throughput and average waiting time. We also implement proposed scheme into our WSN-based ITS project, iSensNet, and the result shows that our scheme is effective and practical.

“…The process linked to the fuzzy logic controller to generate a unique output for each input pattern by using the image process and fuzzy logic toolboxes of MATLAB. And, Zhou et.al [5] developed an adaptive traffic control system for a simple four phases intersection, in which the sequence of traffic signals can be adjusted dynamically by the real-time traffic data and the traffic signal length. Pour et.al [6] proposed a multi-objective algorithm model by using a fuzzy traffic signal controller for an individual two phases intersection with T-Type to optimize the timing of the traffic signal in oversaturated or unusual load conditions and to reduce the total traffic queue.…”

“…According to [9], the continuing development of WSNs and their flexibility extend the application contexts that can be examined using sensor nodes. Developed harvesting system described in this paper has been optimized and characterized for Medimote sensor node with the aim to reduce utilization of the batteries supplying sensor node.…”

“…Peppa A popular area of development is the structural optimization of traffic light cycles to create the most optimal phasing schemes according to the established demand for traffic or pedestrian flow, which is also determined in advance, based on road camera monitoring data (Djuana et al (2018), Seifnaraghi et al (2009), Kwatirayo et al (2013). Zhou et al (2013) developed an adaptive traffic light control scheme. The authors developed a traffic light control scheme, in which the traffic light sequence can be dynamically adjusted according to the traffic detected in real time, including traffic volume, waiting time, and vehicle density.…”
