An adjoint gamma-ray moments computer code, ADJMON - I

Abstract: In this paper we discuss a computer code for generating spatial-angular moments of the adjoint gamma-ray flux in an infinite medium. The equation for the flux moments is given and techniques used for the solution are described. Details of the input data and a sample problem are also supplied.

“…The build-up is defined as the ratio of the total value of a specified radiation quantity at any point to the contribution to that value from radiation reaching the point without having undergone a collision. Build-up factors have been computed by various codes such as PALLAS (Takeuchi and Tanaka, 1984), ADJMON-I (Simmons, 1973;Chilton et al, 1980), ASFIT (Gopinath and Samthanam, 1971) and EGS4 (Nelson et al, 1985). These codes use an accurate algorithm for the Klein-Nishina cross-section which eliminates other sources of error.…”

“…The codes used were ADJMOM-I [77](moments method), PALLAS [78,79](discrete ordinate-integral transport), and ASFIT [80] (discrete ordinate-integral transport). The data selected for the standard are mostly from moment method calculations.…”

“…The build-up factor data were computed by different codes such as PALLAS-PL (Takeuchi, 1973), RADHEAT-V4 (Yamano et al, 1989), ADJMOM-1 (Simmons, 1973) and ASFIT (Gopinath and Samthanam, 1971). Several authors have provided different build-up factor data for extensive utilization of design in radiation shields and for other purposes (Hubbell, 1963;Chilton et al, 1980;Harima, 1983;Sakamoto et al, 1988;Brar et al, 1994;Brar and Mudahar, 1995).…”
