Purpose The purpose of this paper is to systematically analyze existing studies related to the adoption of smart technologies in cruise tourism services, particularly robots, artificial intelligence, service automation and virtual reality. More specifically, the authors intend to highlight the current state of research on this topic, present the findings within a conceptual framework and propose a research agenda. Design/methodology/approach The relevant literature was extracted using two major electronic databases, web of science (WoS) and Scopus. The authors identified 31 articles from high-quality journals and used a systematic review and the VOSviewer software to analyze them. Findings Since 2014, there has been an increase in the number of studies related to smart technologies in cruise tourism services. At first, researchers focused on Royal Caribbean’s robotic bartender arm, whereas other technologies such as digital signage, self-service options, facial recognition and virtual culinary experiences received less attention. However, the interest in exploring these last smart technologies has grown significantly since 2019. The adoption of RAISA in the cruise tourism service (ASCT) framework was proposed, identifying five major domains: cruise robotic technology, technology innovation, cruise passengers’ engagement behavior, cruise passengers’ technology readiness and privacy perception and knowledge expertise. These domains provide valuable guidance for future research in this field. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to systematically analyze literature on the adoption of new technologies in cruise tourism services, specifically focusing on the major technologies available on cruise ships.

The uncertainty of the environment, the complexity of economic systems, both at the national and global economy levels, and the digital age and artificial intelligence draw attention to the existence or appearance of systemic, disruptive phenomena that can appear and propagate in different forms, producing effects that can turn into economic crises. These phenomena can be transmitted like a domino effect, and they are referred to as the contagion effect in the scientific literature. In this research, one of the four forms of financial contagion, known as residual contagion, is studied on the mortgage loan market in Romania using agent-based modeling. By considering the economic crisis of 2007–2009, also supported by the mortgage crisis, in the present paper, we aim to study the Romanian mortgage market in 2022 through the use of machine learning techniques and agent-based modeling. The purpose of this research is to capture the potential systemic risks that can outline a residual financial contagion effect. The simulation results highlight the fact that the degree of connectivity between the commercial banks in Romania and the way in which they are interconnected have a major importance in the emergence and propagation of contagion effects. The proposed approach and the obtained results can offer more insight to policymakers on how the contagion effect takes place within the banking sector.

To explore fire hazards and provide real‐time path navigation services for passenger ships, this study proposes an improved artificial fish swarm algorithm (IAFSA) to give the optimal evacuation route for evacuees when a passenger ship is on fire. First, the PyroSim software is used to simulate the fire scene on the sixth deck of the passenger ship. Through which the real‐time temperature, carbon monoxide (CO) concentration, and visibility of each exit are obtained, and the spread speed of the fire hazard area is determined. Then, the artificial fish swarm algorithm is improved by using the dynamic Visual and step, and the optimal path planning for the evacuation of passenger ships is achieved. The Visualized Evacuation Guidance System (VEGS) is developed to provide the optimal route for evacuees on the passenger ship. Finally, VEGS is applied to the fire evacuation of passenger ships. The results show that VEGS can provide the optimal evacuation path for evacuees and avoid detours in fire hazard areas compared with other algorithms. Seventy‐five percent of the evacuees who used VEGS in the event of a passenger ship can escape in a time shortened by up to 40.8%.
