An AHP based approach to forecast groundwater level at potential recharge zones of Uckermark District, Brandenburg, Germany

Abstract: Uckermark, a district of the state Brandenburg, Germany is situated in one of the driest regions of Germany. The district is known for its agricultural activities and natural resources. But in recent times the district is being prone to groundwater deficit due to the dryness of its climate. In this research initiative, a GIS and Remote Sensing based approach has been made to detect the potential groundwater recharge zones of Uckermark district and observe the groundwater level condition over a period of 21 yea… Show more

“…www.nature.com/scientificdata www.nature.com/scientificdata/ In the literature, the AHP is used to interrogate people who have extensive knowledge about a specific topic 15,16 ; this method is commonly used for a small sample size 17 . It may also help experts or decision-makers to set priorities and make the best decision in a wide variety of decision situations in diverse fields, for example, design concept evaluation 16 , assessment of distribution center locations 18 , determination of potential groundwater recharge zones 19 , to name a few. The AHP has several functions, such as (i) breaking an unstructured problem down into rational hierarchical decision elements, and (ii) eliciting the best prioritized decisions from experts or decision-makers through questionnaires using pairwise comparisons of individual groups of elements.…”

“…One of the most important natural resources on Earth is groundwater. Stored in subsurface geological formations, it serves as a vital resource for both agriculture and human activities (Arulbalaji et al, 2019;Raihan et al, 2022). Its role in mitigating climate change-induced fluctuations in water availability underscores its significance (Hellwig et al, 2020).…”

“…Precipitation or other recharge sources show seasonal characteristics in these areas, which result in seasonal variations of recharge rates, fluxes, and thus the transport of potential contaminants (Tweed et al, 2020). Understanding recharge rates at seasonal timescales can help improve the accuracy of predicting long-term changes in annual recharge rates under changing climate conditions (Niraula et al, 2017;Raihan et al, 2022;Yang et al, 2021). The seasonal timing and relative efficiency of recharge between seasons can be determined using stable isotopes ( 2 H and 18 O) of groundwater (Sánchez-Murillo and Birkel, 2016;Stahl et al, 2020).…”
