An analysis of the substantivity of hydrolysed reactive dyes and its implication for rinsing processes

Abstract: Substantivity plays a key role in dyeing processes, for dye exhaustion and fixation as well as for dye removal during rinsing. The latter is especially relevant for reactive dyes when the hydrolysed dye has to be removed from the fibre. The substantivity of the hydrolysed form of 46 commercially important reactive dyes was analysed at two temperatures for a wide range of dye amounts, pH values and electrolyte concentrations. The results showed that substantivity was highly dye-specific and varied, for each var… Show more

“…In recent years, alternative washing processes for the removal of hydrolyzed reactive dye have been intensively studied. These procedures lower water consumption, reduce or completely reject the use of chemicals and reduce the process duration [13][14][15]. The research shows that the removal of hydrolyzed dye occurs within the first 15 min of washing and the conventional washing process in 5 baths could be successfully replaced by "hot washing"a process with 3 baths at 98°C without the use of chemicals.…”

“…Boyama esnasında renkli boya molekülü, reaktif grup üzerinden alkali ortamda lif ile reaksiyona girip kovalent bağ oluşturarak sağlam bir şekilde life bağlanmaktadır. Boyama ortamında bulunan su molekülü ile reaksiyona girerek hidroliz olması (selülozik lifleri boyama yeteneğini kaybetmesi) reaktif boyarmaddelerin en önemli dezavantajı olarak görülmektedir [2][3].…”
