An angiogenesis-related long noncoding RNA signature correlates with prognosis in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most prevalent and lethal cancers worldwide. Neovascularization is closely related to the malignancy of tumors. We constructed a signature of angiogenesis-related long noncoding RNA(lncRNA) to predict the prognosis of patients with HCC. The lncRNA expression matrix of 424 HCC patients was downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). First, gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was used to distinguish the differentially expressed genes of the angiogenesis genes in l… Show more

“…In addition, the predictive accuracy of the risk score was assessed by the time-dependent ROC analysis at 1, 2, and 3 years, with area under the curve (AUC) values of 0.787, 0.761, and 0.739, respectively ( Figure 2H ), Furthermore, the AUC value of OS for the risk score was significantly higher than those for age, sex, tumor stage, tumor pathological grade, and tumor staging ( Figure 2I , Supplementary Figure S3 ). DCA curve and IDI were used to compare the discriminative ability between our model and the previously reported lncRNA prediction model for HCC ( Li et al, 2020 ; Guo et al, 2021a ; Guo et al, 2021b ; Huang et al, 2021b ; Wang et al, 2021b ; Lei et al, 2021 ; Li et al, 2021 ). DCA indicated that our pyroptosis-related lncRNA signature had positive net benefits and superiority compared with the previously reported lncRNA prediction signature for HCC ( Supplementary Figure S4 ).…”

“…A signature of nine coding genes regulating the methylation of the lncRNA promoter region has been established in patients with glioma [ 22 ]. Lei et al [ 23 ], Tang et al [ 24 ], and Li et al [ 25 ] constructed lncRNA signatures related to angiogenesis, ferroptosis, and autophagy to predict the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, and breast cancer, respectively. Immune-related lncRNAs were also widely studied and included in many predictive models.…”

“…The expression patterns of angiogenesis regulating lncRNAs that have been shown to correlate with disease progression and treatment outcome in cancer patients are listed in Table 1 . These lncRNAs have been explored for possible clinical application as biomarkers and as targets for therapeutic intervention [ 48 , 49 , 50 , 51 ].…”

“…On the other hand, meta-analysis revealed that TUG1, SPRY4-1T1, and HULC did not correlate with lymph node metastasis in various cancers [ 49 , 51 ]. However, a correlation could be established between the expression levels of these three lncRNAs and low overall survival in cancer patients [ 50 ].…”
