An application of a multiple neural network learning system to emulation of mortgage underwriting judgements

Abstract: This application made use of a Multiple Neural Network Learning System (MNNLS) to replicate the decisions made by mortgage insurance underwriters. The MNNLS was trained on previous underwriter judgements and learned to mimic their underwriting skills. The system reached a high degree of agreement with human underwriters when testing on previously unseen examples. Disagreements were examined using case studies, a single feature distribution analysis and a quality analysis. These studies indicate that human und… Show more

“…This information can be used in the future to save money by only targeting groups that are likely to respond to the promotion. Further applications of classification are risk assessment for credit card loan 50 and mortgage applications 10 , as well as bankruptcy predictions. However, prediction comprises not only classification of unlabelled data, but also prediction of future trends.…”

“…The dendrites are extensions of a neuron which extends to other parts of a neuron to form a neural network.A biological neuron can be connected to other neurons as well as accepting connections from other neurons, which serves as the basis the network.Though those connections, electrical pulses are transmitted, and information is carried in the timing and the frequency with which these pulses are emitted. Learning in biological systems involves adjustments to the synaptic connections that exist between the neurons [15,18].…”
