An approach to model-driven architecture applied to space real-time software

Abstract: Real-time systems are commonplace in satellites. In this system type, software has become a crucial factor to satellite's success projects because its complexity quickly increases, along with cost. Some factors that contribute to increase complexity of software are: it interacts with different kind of hardware, it has several states and for each state commonly a different control law, it has hard-deadlines, and it must have a high level of reliability. Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS) is a good example… Show more

“…Romero and Ferreira propose an MDA-based approach applied to the domain of space real-time software for sake of code generation and schedulability analysis [16]. In their approach platform independent models (PIM) and test cases are specified using fUML activities.…”

“…In the approach proposed by Romero and Ferreira [16], non-functional properties are annotated using the MARTE profile but, as stated by the authors themselves, they are ignored at the PIM level and are only considered when fUML-based PIMs are transformed into AADL models for sake of schedulability analysis (which is not feasible at the moment in fUML as stated in [18]). The approaches presented in [18] and [19] do not make use of UML profiles at all.…”
