An architecture for creating and managing virtual networks

Abstract: Abstract-Reducing operational costs and increasing energy efficiency are critical for mobile operators. One accepted way to tackle these issues is to make use of virtualization to share the same physical infrastructure among several virtual networks. However, sharing physical infrastructure presents a number of challenges, such as security issues, conflicting hardware control, and fair resource sharing. In our earlier work, we analyzed these challenges and demonstrated how virtualized mobile operator networks … Show more

“…The paper introduces an orchestration architecture that involves orchestrating functions at broker and physical infrastructure provider (PIP) level, see Figure 2. This architecture is compliant to those introduced in other related works, such as [14], [15]. The PIPs own the physical resources, pool them together and expose them as a service to virtual request owners (VROs) or any other entity that can add value and resell them further.…”

“…It ensures that service requests from different domains are mapped into multi-operator and multi-technology domains while matching each service ELA requirements [255] . Perez-Caparros et al [270] was among the first to design the MdO use cases and its requirements. This was followed by several research works [271][272][273] that suggested where and how to place VNF in multi-domain architectures.…”
