Abstract:Nanoparticles that catalyze biochemically relevant reactions are promoted as alternative enzymes. The application of such artificial enzymes is severely restricted by poor selectivity in biological fluids; mainly because the reactions occur at active sites on the exterior surface of the nanoparticle.
