An Easily Applied Black Oil Model Of Caustic Waterflooding

Abstract: This paper describes the rectifications and extensions made to a Beta-type, three phase, three dimensional, numerical reservoir simulator which make possible the modeling of caustic and/or polymer possible the modeling of caustic and/or polymer displacement of oil. The performance of a caustic laboratory core flood has been matched using this new simulator. The simulation model developed from the core flood matches will be used to predict the performance of the caustic flood to be undertaken in the performance… Show more

“…Currently two finite-difference models are available. One that considers the process on a macroscopic basis has been described by Breit et al 76 ,77 and Mayer and Breit. 78 In this, the primary displacement effects are represented by changes in the mobilities of the oil and water.…”

“…Therefore the fate of hydroxide (OH -) ions during transport through the soil is an important aspect of this remediation technology. Studies performed by the agricultural and oil industries provide evidence of the transport limitations of hydroxide ions in soils, particularly those soils with significant clay content (Breit et al 1979, deZabala et al 1980, Somerton and Radke 1980, Smith et al 1994.…”
