“…Another SPR-based biosensor is reported that can detect VEGF in a nanomolar range. Here DNA aptamers are used as the biorecognition molecules (Cennamo et al, 2015). An LSPR based sensor is developed by Zhao et al (2014) for the detection of a cervical cancer marker, squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCCa) using an AgNPs array where monoclonal anti-SCCa antibodies are immobilized.…”

“…The sensing platform presented here uses a side‐polished multimode plastic optical fibre (POF) as the light guiding structure, which has particular advantages due to its low cost, easy manipulation, excellent flexibility, great numerical aperture and large diameter, along with the fact that plastic is able to withstand smaller bend radii than glass . Gold is chosen as the plasmonic responsible layer in the sensor platform because of the extremely well understood chemical interaction with organic compounds and its good resistance to oxidation and corrosion in different environments . In addition, the gold‐coated in‐POF sensor is integrated into a new thermo‐stabilized microfluidic platform.…”

“…The transmitted power increased linearly when the sensor is exposed to sucrose solutions of increasing refractive index, although a complex procedure and expensive instrumentation are required for the sensor production. Cennamo et al have reported several biological and chemical sensors based on SPR (surface plasmon resonance) in a D-shaped POF platform [11,12,13] with 1 cm length sensing region and with typical optical resolution of around 6 × 10 −4 RIU [14]. …”
