China’s undergraduate engineering education is facing two significant challenges: passive learning and limited cross-cultural communication. In response, active learning methods such as project-based learning (PBL) and Sino-foreign cooperative education emerge as promising solutions. However, despite their potential, PBL’s application remains constrained, and many Sino-foreign cooperative programs persist with traditional passive learning approaches. How to adeptly integrate the two, namely realizing active learning in Sino-foreign cooperative education, is the primary objective of this study. To this end, a sustainable strategy for cross-cultural transfer and the adaptation of active learning is proposed. Initially, a PBL-based active learning pedagogy is tailored for a course within a Sino-Australian cooperative undergraduate program. This approach integrates hands-on activities, teamwork, and the flipped classroom method. Moreover, to ensure implementation quality, an assessment method reliant on continuous student survey feedback is suggested. Subsequently, through the statistical analysis of students’ survey data as well as final grades, both quantitative and qualitative results affirm the efficacy of the proposed strategy.

Learning Enhancement of Control Engineering: A Competition-Based Case

The transition from academic training to professional life is not an easy task. In recent years, various learning enhancement methodologies have emerged to reduce this gap, which focuses on both soft and technical skills. Specifically, Competition-Based Learning (CBL) seeks to improve learning and motivation through the competitive component, which has detractors and defenders. In this framework, the present work proposes a national competition, CIC2022, within the field of control engineering that uses a testbed with an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for helping to link theory and practice. The main objective is to analyze the results of CBL on learning. In addition to explaining the characteristics of the competition and the academic results obtained, a survey answered by participants provides conclusions on the effectiveness of the methodology and other issues related to the contest. Greater motivation and teamwork promoted the active learning of students and improved the autonomous acquisition of technical skills.

Project-based learning is learner-led, team-oriented, and focuses on self-driven growth. It is conducive to cultivating creativity, teamwork and leadership, self-learning ability, and the ability to plan and execute projects. At present, the research of project-based learning mainly focuses on a certain course, and there is no research on the construction of project-based learning knowledge system from the perspective of professional talent training. This paper constructs the knowledge system of project-based learning based on the talent training plan, and takes the software technology specialty as an example to illustrate the construction method of the knowledge system of project-based learning. Finally, it summarizes the specific project-based learning practice. Practice has proved that project-based learning knowledge system can help students master the relevance between various courses, the relevance is intuitive, the designed projects can be realized by students themselves, which increases students' self-confidence and learning passion.
