An economic evaluation methodology for smallholder maize research and extension: Zimbabwe

The market penetration ofhybrid maize in Mexico is low (14percent). A regional potential for 3 million ha ofhybrid maize is assessed by environmental regional data, soil depth and an index of precipitation to evaporation. Substituting available hybrids for non-hybrid maize seed is expected to generate substantial increases in agricultural productivity and competitiveness of maize production. Regional priorities as well as government and company programs are assessed.La penetration du marcht du mats hybride au Mexique est limitee (1 4 pour cent). Un potentiel regional pour 3 millions de hectares de ma/s hybride est halue a partir des donnees regionales environnementales, profondeur de sol et un increment de precipitation a 1 'evaporation. La substitution des hybrides disponibles a la graine de mais non-hybride estprevue pourproduire des augmentations substantielles dans la productivitl et dans la competitivite agricole de la production de mais. Les rrorites regionales aussi bien que des programmes gouvernementaux et de la compagnie sont haluees.
