An Efficient Way of Visualization of Mutual Solubility Data in the Whole Range of Compositions

Abstract: An efficient way or stretching phase diagrams is proposed that represents the whole composition range and reveals details of low-solubility regions. It is based on the transformation of mole fraction x 1 to log10(x 1/x 2) = log10(x 1/(1 – x 1)) for binary mixtures. While the primary application is liquid–liquid and solid–liquid equilibria, the use of this method for other properties may also be beneficial. An extension on ternary mixtures is also discussed.
