“…It can also be related to the species used and excess of other parts such as shrimp shell in the feedstock. In contrast, CDACP (97.67%) corroborates the results of Terrazas-Fierro et al (2010) (98.0%), and higher than those found by Akiyama et al (1989) (74.6%) and Mu et al (2000) (88.2%), which may have been influenced by the ability of crustaceans to better use the protein of the soluble carbohydrates (ROSAS et al, 2002).…”

“…When the hepatopancreas is saturated, glycogen can act as a physical barrier preventing the amino acids and peptides into the B cells of the hepatopancreas, indirectly affecting growth. In that case, a high dietary carbohydrate content can indirectly affect growth because the amino acids and peptides can be lost through fecal excretion (Rosas et al, 2002). In the present study, it was observed that the growth rate of crayfish juveniles was reduced just in animals fed with cornstarch exceeded 200 g kg −1 which produced a hepatopancreas glycogen concentration above the inflection point in the curve between hepatopancreas glycogen concentration and cornstarch levels.…”

“…Shrimps, in particular, appear to exhibit less preferential utilization of carbohydrates as an energy source (Alava and Pascual, 1987;Bages and Sloane, 1981;Rosas et al, 2002;Shiau and Peng, 1992). Stone et al (2003) suggested that the ability of animals to utilize dietary carbohydrate as an energy source depends on digestibility, endogenous metabolic enzymes, and assimilation of different dietary carbohydrates.…”

“…Baseline levels of the haemolymph metabolites were obtained by Rosas et al (2002) in Litopenaeus vannamei to be used as reference parameters. Glucose is the major component of circulating carbohydrates in crustaceans, but its concentration varies markedly Table 4.…”

“…The proteins are essential nutrients for the penaeoids shrimps because they are basic for growth, the regulation of the internal osmotic pressure, the gluconeogenesis and the immune system (Rosas et al, 2002). Therefore variations of this nutrient in haemolymph can be used as good indicator of general physiological state.…”
