An Enhanced Factor Analysis of Performance Degradation Assessment on Slurry Pump Impellers

Abstract: Slurry pumps, such as oil sand pumps, are widely used in industry to convert electrical energy to slurry potential and kinetic energy. Because of adverse working conditions, slurry pump impellers are prone to suffer wear, which may result in slurry pump breakdowns. To prevent any unexpected breakdowns, slurry pump impeller performance degradation assessment should be immediately conducted to monitor the current health condition and to ensure the safety and reliability of slurry pumps. In this paper, to provide… Show more

“…When the impellers get enough deterioration, they will stop offering resistance to slurry particles. In this situation, after reaching a particular height, the degradation trend should start to progress in a downward direction [ 9 ]. It can be observed in Figure 4 .…”

“…The condition “completely degraded,” C imp = 0, indicates that the most affected area is completely worn away, that is, a hole appears in the impeller wall. Although it is known that at this point the pressure head or pump efficiency starts to drop substantially, 55 it does not yet imply that the pump stopped working completely.…”

“…After the extraction of 18 statistical features from the valid signals, they were reconstructed into a new feature matrix. Further details regarding this transformation can be seen in the previous work by the corresponding authors in [14,16]. The new feature matrix was sent to a designed algorithm that was the combination of principal component analysis and a moving average method.…”
