An evaluation study of protocols used in cable TV networks

Abstract

This paper presents a performance simulation analysis of several protocols proposed for implementation in a Cable TV Network. One of the protocols simulated is DQRAP (Distributed Queuing Random Access Protocol). DQRAP is a multiple access protocol with packet reservation scheme using contention mmislots. DQRAP requires that channel time be divided into slots, each of which consists of three mimslots used to schedule the transmission of packets followed by one data slot used to tranmait ~t~ and that stations maintain two common distributed queues (TQ -data transmission queueand RQ -resolution collision queue-). Stations will follow DQRAP rules by txanmaitfing in the data slot and/or one of the minislots on the inbotmd dmnnel.Throughput and delay under various loads will be simulated.
