An Exact Expression for the Average AoI in a Multi-Source M/M/1 Queueing Model

Abstract: Information freshness is crucial in a wide range of wireless applications where a destination needs the most recent measurements of a remotely observed random process. In this paper, we study the information freshness of a singleserver multi-source M/M/1 queueing model under a firstcome first-served (FCFS) serving policy. The information freshness of the status updates of each source is evaluated by the average age of information (AoI). We derive an exact expression for the average AoI for the multi-source M/M… Show more

“…12 Different from these works, there are some works derived the average AoI of M/M/1 queueing mode by using stochastic hybrid system (SHS) technique. 13,14 An exact average AoI of multi-source M/M/1 queueing system was found in works of Moltafet et al 15,16 The multi-stream M/G/1/1 queueing system was investigated by introducing automatic repeat request (ARQ), 17 with packet preempting, 18 and in the work of Najm with the consideration of stream priority, respectively. 19 By using the ARQ retransmission, the AoI was also investigated.…”
