An experimental study on assessing the corrosion performance of steel reinforcement for the durability of concrete

Abstract: Durability of structures made of steel-reinforced concrete is greatly to scale back the speed of moisture transport or the ingress of aggressive ions. An experimental study to assess the initial corrosion behaviour of Thermo-Mechanically Treated rebar (TMT), Corrosion Resistant rebar (CRS) and Fusion bonded Epoxy Coated rebar (EC) under controlled condition (CC) and in simulated marine environment condition (SME). Rebars of 12 mm dia with a span of 250 mm are enclosed in specimens having and length and breadth… Show more

“…It would be good to enhance the considerable relevance of that work with experimental data or calculation results according to acting norms. An experimental study to assess the initial behavior of reinforcement of different types under controlled conditions and in the conditions of simulated marine environment is reported in paper [26]. It was established that the resistance to polarization of machined reinforcement is 1.8 times greater than that of corrosion-resistant reinforcement.…”

“…The theoretical foundations for modeling the structures' interaction processes with the environment, calculating their durability are laid down in [1], the design of the reinforced concrete engineering structures' durability, taking into account degradation processes in concrete and reinforcement under the action of various aggressive media in a deterministic and probabilistic setting, is considered in [2]. Currently, a large number of studies are devoted to the experimental study of the processes of corrosion in concrete and reinforcement [3][4][5][6][7], as well as the measurement of the corrosion rate directly in real time [8,9]. Methods of probabilistic modeling of concrete and reinforcement wear and destruction during the propagation of corrosion and calculation of the reinforced concrete structures' reliability are considered in [10][11][12][13].…”
