“…The literature on CE adoption has employed several theories, such as the resource-based view, contingency theory, resource dependence theory (Farooque et al, 2019a, b) and transaction cost economics (Dossa et al, 2022). However, two theories that explain the similarities and divergence of our study from the extant literature on barriers to CE adoption are institutional (Do et al, 2022) and stakeholder (Jabbour et al, 2020) theories.…”

“…Our results also diverge from some of the CE adoption barriers identified in the literature, exclusively for specific contexts. For example, three barriers identified by Do et al (2022), namely, cold-chain logistics requirements, integration into the local distribution network and complicated and time-consuming exporting and testing process, are exclusively applicable to the seafood processing by-product (SPBP) industry in Vietnam and are irrelevant in our study. However, our study identified two barriers, lack of effective promotional methods and lack of awareness of funding schemes that were unique to the tire retreading industry in India.…”

“…The literature usually recognizes institutional and regulatory factors as being most noteworthy to the commitment of CE actions (de Jesus & Mendonça 2018 ). Jointly, scholars identify that the CE model is mainly determined by “soft” factors, identified as institutional (de Jesus & Mendonça 2018 ; Do et al, 2022 ), with the dominant roles of norms and cultural elements determining the shift toward more sustainable business models and the adoption of CE attitudes (Ranta et al, 2018a ; Rosca et al, 2018 ).…”
