An IDM‐Based Approach for Information Requirement in Prefabricated Construction

Abstract: Prefabricated construction promotes providing better productivity and project results. Building models, including their elements’ fabrication details, are complex structures that need accurate information delivery among the project participants and their partial designs. This paper extends the IFC data model to support prefabricated construction. Also, it discusses the advantages of systematically managing exchange requirements in a database to facilitate generating IDM (Information Delivery Manual). The paper… Show more

“…Lean construction is closely linked to DfMA and digital technologies, such as BIM and RFID [56][57][58][59], as seen in the light blue circles in Figure 6a; 2. Information delivery and exchange, and the product architect model are to address OSC information sharing issues [52,[60][61][62], as seen in the orange circles in Figure 6b; 3. The estimation of carbon emissions, from additional production and transportation processes in the life-cycle assessment of OSC, is different from traditional construction [63][64][65].…”

“…The BPMN is a standardized non-construction-specific comprehensive framework for modeling business processes of all kinds [19,20]. The IDM framework is well researched for the application of the information delivery [17,18,21] and the specification of information requirements in the construction industry [22]. The relevance of IDM and BPMN in the renovation phase of buildings was also investigated by Armijo et al [23].…”

“…So far, scholars' research on IS in PBSC can be divided into three categories. Combined with the application and obstacles of building information modeling (BIM) in prefabricated buildings [7], some scholars have studied the combination of integrated data multiplexer or radio frequency identification or multi-agent or blockchain and BIM to realize IS in PBSC [2,8,9]. Most scholars construct incentive mechanisms of IS [10] and supply chain management framework [11], aiming at problems such as "bullwhip effect" and "opportunistic behavior" in IS [2,12,13].…”
