Abstract:Aspergillus fumigatus is the most common cause of invasive aspergillosis (IA), a devastating infection in immunocompromised patients. Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) regulate host defense against IA by enhancing neutrophil antifungal properties in the lung. Here, we define the pDC activation trajectory during A. fumigatus infection and the molecular events that underlie the protective pDC - neutrophil crosstalk. Fungus-induced pDC activation begins after bone marrow egress and results in pDC-dependent regu… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
