Abstract:Biomaterials are increasingly being designed and adapted to a wide range of structural applications, owing to their superior mechanical property-to-weight ratios, low cost, biodegradability, and CO2 capture. Bamboo, specifically, has an interesting anatomy with long tube-like vessels present in its microstructure, which can be exploited to improve its mechanical properties for structural applications. By filling these vessels with a resin, e.g. an applied external loading would be better distributed in the str… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
