“…Knowledge of the proportions in the upper lip-lower lip-chin area has a major impact on the perception of facial aesthetics [9,10,13,30]. It is possible to enlarge, refine, shorten and reshape lips with surgical techniques or with nonsurgical procedures like injectable soft tissue fillers such as bovine collagen or hyaluronic acid [8,24]. Dermal fillers are commonly used for aesthetic lip augmentation procedures which target to increase lip fullness, define lips and restore volume loss that may occur with aging and facial paralysis [2,8,21,24].…”

Dermal fillers are commonly used for aesthetic lip augmentation procedures which target to increase lip fullness, define lips and restore volume loss that may occur with aging and facial paralysis [2,8,21,24]. Fillers and implants that have been widely utilized in clinical practice contain a series of applications including autologous implants (fat transfer), collagens (bovine, human), biosynthetic implants (polymethylmethacrylate microspheres in a carrier gel, expanded tetrafluoroethylene) and crosslinked hyaluronic acid gels, such as small gel particle hyaluronic acid (Fig.…”
