An Indirect Search for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles in the Sun Using 3109.6 Days of Upward-Going Muons in Super-Kamiokande

Abstract: We present the result of an indirect search for high energy neutrinos from Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) annihilation in the Sun using upward-going muon (upmu) events at Super-Kamiokande. Data sets from SKI-SKIII (3109.6 days) were used for the analysis. We looked for an excess of neutrino signal from the Sun as compared with the expected atmospheric neutrino background in three upmu categories: stopping, non-showering, and showering. No significant excess was observed. The 90% C.L. upper limits o… Show more

“…Both Super-Kamiokande (Tanaka et al, 2011) and Ice-Cube (Abbasi et al, 2012a) have searched for neutrinos that come from dark matter capture and annihilation in the Sun. As in the case of diffuse neutrino searches discussed in Section 7, neutrino experiments quote their limits for hard (W + W − ) and soft (bb) spectra for the sources of neutrinos.…”

“…Further constraints on the model arise from the neutrino searches by Super-Kamiokande [70,71] and IceCube [72] which aim to detect the annihilation of dark matter particles in the sun. They provide especially strong bounds on the spin-dependent cross section 70] if the LSPs dominantly annihilate into W bosons.…”
