An Insight into Reverse Logistics with a Focus on Collection Systems

Abstract: Sustainable development is now the focus of researchers and organizations worldwide. Several concepts, such as reverse logistics (RLs) and closed-loop supply chains, have been introduced to encourage sustainability in supply chains. RLs refers to the set of activities needed by consumers to collect the product used for reuse, repair, remanufacturing, recycling, or disposal of the used product. There are various processes involved in RL, and one of them is collection systems. Collection refers to a company obta… Show more

“…The term has also been conceptualized by Rogers and Tibben‐lembke (2001) as ‘the process of planning, implementing, and controlling the efficient, cost effective flow of raw materials, in‐process inventory, finished goods and related information from the point of consumption to the point of origin for the purpose of recapturing value or proper disposal’ (p. 129). Together with green logistics, RL has been increasingly perceived to be the condition for sustainable development (Alkahtani et al, 2021; Richnák & Gubová, 2021).…”

“…Bibliometrics is a statistical analysis tool of publication that provides quantitative awareness into academic literature [36]. The bibliometric analysis technique has also been used to study areas such as wastewater treatment costs [37]; sustainable and responsible tourism (SRT) [38], and Reverse logistics with a focus on collection systems [39]. Co-word analysis, devised in the late 1970s [40] as an essential bibliometric technique, can detect the most important themes, explore hot-spots and identify knowledge gaps in research.…”

“…Influenced by various factors, the RL concept has attracted increasing attention, including competition among organisations, social marketing, environmental interference and economic elements (Alkahtani et al, 2021). The number of annual publications from 1995 to 2020 in the RL field can be observed in Figure 2.…”

“…Most studies emphasised the specific aspects of RL, such as modelling (Rogers et al, 2012), planning (Ramos et al, 2014), driving (Sharma et al, 2011), performance measurement, and the general overview of RL (Alkahtani et al, 2021). The development trend of RL must be necessarily analysed to comprehend RL research status.…”
