An Integrated Multi-Criteria and Multi-Objective Optimization Approach for Establishing the Transport Plan of Intercity Trains

Abstract: The development of the transport plan must take into account various criteria impacting the transport process. The main objective of the study is to propose an integrated approach to determine the transport plan of passenger trains. The methodology consists of five steps. In the first step, the criteria for optimization of the transport plan were defined. In the second step, variants of the transport plan were formulated. In the third step, the weights of the criteria are determined by applying the step-wise w… Show more

“…The a posteriori method integrates DMs' preferences after obtaining Pareto-optimal solutions from the MOO algorithms [51]. Several recent studies combined MOO and MCDM methods, including optimal planning for electric vehicle charging stations [52], polymer extrusion problems [53], chemical engineering processes [54], reservoir operation [55], developing transport plans [56], etc. Padhye and Deb [57] used two MOO methods, Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA)-II and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and three MCDM methods (marginal utility method, aspiration point method, and the L 2 metric method) for the selective laser sintering process.…”

“…The timetable of a train is like a document which establishes a time position of the train in a specific line section and defines travelling time for each train [14]. Based on Stoilov's thoughts, planning must consider various criteria of the transport process [65]. If the travelling time is exceeded, then the passenger can be compensated for a train delay.…”

“…In engineering multi‐parameter optimization, the designers are interested in finding one or more optimum solutions in the light of two or more objective functions to identify a set of trade‐off solutions [8]. A multi‐objective optimization allows for maximization or minimization of a set of objective functions [9, 10] and is very useful in identifying the minimum cost of energy and the maximum annual energy production (AEP) early in the design process [8].…”
