An integrated TRIZ approach for technological process and product innovation

Abstract: Process trimming (also can be called as trimming for process) helps to trim and eliminate process operations by redistributing their functions among other operations. It offers one way to eliminate key disadvantages in product and manufacturing process that other methods do not see. However, few methods have been disclosed in a structured way for process trimming effectively. Therefore, this article proposes an integrated process focused on technological process and product innovation to solve the key problems… Show more

“…This step is to organize the brainstorm among the Knowledge sources, during which innovation ideas (not specific design solutions) are generated. Here, TRIZ (which is a systematic innovation tool that use generic TRIZ solutions to provide possible directions for problem solving 24 ) is used to guide the brainstorm. After reading the design task description on the Task panel , R&D staffs can submit TRIZ solutions that they believe useful for the task to Control module-1 , and Control module-1 would add these TRIZ solutions to the Innovation idea panel .…”

“…Brad et al [139] use TRIZ for process improvement in the form of a twelve-step algorithm. Nine-step technological process optimization by Trimming is described by Li et al [140]. Maia, Alves, and Leão [5] discuss the relationship between TRIZ tools with Lean principles, the methodology for improvement in the textile and clothing industry is also presented.…”

“…TRIZ is such a structured method for analogical design that abstracts problem into some contradictions 15 and then develops solutions using the 40 inventive principles as conceptual analogies. 16 Inspiration from instance knowledge/analogies is also quite important in transforming the schematization solutions in TRIZ into specific solutions. Therefore, by means of textual analysis, Souili and Cavallucci 30 and Souili et al 31 proposed a linguistic method to automatically extract engineering parameters and corresponding contradictions from patents, so as to identify relevant instance analogies for TRIZ.…”

“…As a problem-solving principle or procedure extracted from design cases, expert schema can either be used to arouse innovation by solving design problems or contradictions, or work as the descriptive medium to associate more other cases to be used for analogy search. Abstracted from a great number of patents, the inventive principles in TRIZ (the Russian acronym for theory of inventive problem solving) are the typical expert schemas which could not only solve innovative design problems 15,16 but also associate instance analogies. 17,18 3.…”
