An Interim Denture Technique and Case Reports

Abstract: An interim denture technique is presented describing the fabrication of an esthetic prosthesis that is used for short periods of time. The prosthesis conditions the patient for the acceptance of an artificial substitute for missing natural teeth until more definitive prosthodontic therapy can be provided. All the teeth in the arch are extracted simultaneously, and the interim prosthesis is inserted immediately thereafter. The prosthesis duplicates the morphology, color, and position of the extracted teeth. Thi… Show more

“…The technique described in this paper is very convenient for the patient with extraction and addition possible in one clinic visit. It is quick and patients adapt easily to their adjusted existing prosthesis avoiding having to adapt to a new denture base [ 4 , 5 , [6] , [7] , [8] , [9] , [10] , [11] ]. It is a simple chairside procedure that completely eliminates the need for dental laboratory access, resulting in patient convenience, fewer clinic visits, and reduced cost [ [6] , [7] , [8] , [9] , [10] , [11] ].…”

Although Devlin et al [ 12 ] recognized the above obstacles in his described technique with a sectional impression, his technique lacked simplicity and needed access to a laboratory to finish the denture.…”

“…Tooth loss can affect the individual's psychological health [4] and, to preserve psychological and social well-being, fabricating flippers would be a viable alternative [5]. In addition, flippers help in conditioning the patient to accept the artificial replacement for the natural teeth until definitive treatment [5]. Flippers cannot function as effectively as permanent prostheses and are only designed for cosmetic substitution if it is tissue-borne [6].…”
