An open-framework beryllium phosphite with extra-large 18-ring channels

Abstract: We report herein a 3D interrupted beryllium phosphite open-framework with a low density (1.594 g cm−3), which is the first case of a beryllium phosphite framework containing extra-large 18-ring channels.

“…The organoamine-directed synthetic strategy is efficient to the fabrication of crystalline materials. The organoamine-directed assembly has been widely investigated in the development history of phosphate and phosphite. The template role together with the potential coordination role of organoamine provides the opportunities for fabricating exotic products in terms of structure and properties. Considering the similarity between inorganic phosphates (or phosphites) and organophosphonates, the organoamines-directed assembly is also applicable to the metal phosphonate.…”

“…Recently, the design and construction of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has obtained great interest in the view of their intriguing structures, topologies, and potential applications in gas storage, separation, catalysis, magnetic properties, biomedicine, and chemical sensors . It has been more and more popular to synthesize lanthanide-based organic frameworks to enrich the varieties of structures and improve the properties by introduction of heterometallic ions, especially transition metal ions.…”

“…The nonframework volume, estimated in terms of solvent-accessible volume (SAV), was ∼45%, which is not the highest compared with other 18R-channel structures (Table S3). However, NTHU-15 is the only MPO structure that possesses ∼24% of the unit-cell volume as SAV even when large template species such as H 5 TEPA 5+ or H 6 PEHA 6+ are present (Figure S8 and Table S3). Apparently, the presence of the templates does not obstruct the channels.…”
