An optimal design analysis of a novel parabolic trough lighting and thermal system

Abstract: SUMMARYIn order to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of daylighting, an innovative parabolic trough solar lighting and thermal (PTL/T) system is designed and analyzed in this paper.Parabolic trough solar lighting and thermal system uses parabolic trough collector (PTC) controlled by two-axis solar tracking system as solar collector. The collected sunlight is split by a cold mirror into visible light and infrared. The visible light is reflected by cold mirror, re-concentrated by a second-stage Fresnel … Show more

“…Most critically to consider, is the positive influence on the human being health and well-fare that has been explained in several studies (Wang et al 2015;Patnaik et al 2018;Choi et al 2019). However, studies also aimed at improving daylight performance interplayed with glazing technologies, building opening ratios, and daylight transporting technologies to avoid glare and provide visual comfort for users while maintaining acceptable daylight distribution in space (Li and Yuan 2016). However, daylight in museums and specifically in adapted museums has been neglected for the sake of artifacts preservation from harmful daylight exceeding values (Rea 2000).…”

“…Concentrated light moves through the optical fibers and is then delivered to the point of use. A subset of an OFD system is the hybrid lighting system (HLS) which encompasses the OFD architecture by appending artificial light to support consistent lighting levels through controlled dimming [12]. Echy [13], Parans [14], and Sollektor [15] provide commercial HLS systems.…”

“…The results shown that the heat transfer fluid temperature in the receiver tube is up to 430 K and the thermal efficiency of the plant is 0.14. Li and Yuan [5] employed a parabolic trough collector for lighting and heating purposes. The results were reported that the lighting efficiency reaches 16.3%, the thermal efficiency 23.1% and the payback period less than 10 years.…”
