Aimed at preventing heat strain, health problems, and absenteeism among workers with physically demanding occupations, a continuous, accurate, non-invasive measuring system may help such workers monitor their body (core) temperature. The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy and explore the usability of the wearable non-invasive Cosinuss° °Temp thermometer. Ear canal temperature was monitored in 49 workers in real-life working conditions. After individual correction, the results of the laboratory and field study revealed high correlations compared to ear canal infrared thermometry for hospital use. After performance of the real-life working tasks, this correlation was found to be moderate. It was also observed that the ambient environmental outdoor conditions and personal protective clothing influenced the accuracy and resulted in unrealistic ear canal temperature outliers. It was found that the Cosinuss° °Temp thermometer did not result in significant interference during work. Therefore, it was concluded that, without a correction factor, the Cosinuss° °Temp thermometer is inaccurate. Nevertheless, with a correction factor, the reliability of this wearable ear canal thermometer was confirmed at rest, but not in outdoor working conditions or while wearing a helmet or hearing protection equipment.

[1,2] Cloth is also a platform for artists, designers, and tailors to advance the clothing demands with emerging materials, process, and fashion. [2] While the majority of the functionalities of clothes lie in their physical attributes, such as their softness, breathability, air/ vapor permeability, and, of course the appearance, their role in thermal management is equally, if not more, important. The primary goal of clothing is to satisfy human being's basic needs in thermal comfort, by providing cooling in the hot environment or heating in the cold environment. [1] The energy management aspect of clothing is becoming an increasingly important and attractive aspect due to our increasing awareness to energy consumption and our persisting pursuit of comfort and health. The finite availability and the associated environmental consequence of fossil fuels have motivated us to save energy from virtually all aspects of our daily lives. A suitable thermal envelop is a necessity for our living and working. To create a comfortable indoor environment, the building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are widely used for space cooling and heating at the expense of excessive energy consumption. [3][4][5][6] According to United States In this decade, the demands of energy saving and diverse personal thermoregulation requirements along with the emergence of wearable electronics and smart textiles give rise to the resurgence of personal thermal management (PTM) technologies. PTM, including personal cooling, heating, insulation, and thermoregulation, are far more flexible and extensive than the traditional air/liquid cooling garments for the human body. Concomitantly, many new advanced materials and strategies have emerged in this decade, promoting the thermoregulation performance and the wearing comfort of PTM simultaneously. In this review, an overview is presented of the state-ofthe-art and the prospects in this burgeoning field. The emerging materials and strategies of PTM are introduced, and classed by their thermal functions. The concept of infrared-transparent visible-opaque fabric (ITVOF) is first highlighted, as it triggers the work on advanced PTM by combining it with radiative cooling, and the corresponding implementations and realizations are subsequently introduced, followed by wearable heaters, flexible thermoelectric devices, and sweat-management Janus textiles. Finally, critical considerations on the challenges and opportunities of PTM are presented and future directions are identified, including thermally conductive polymers and fibers, physiological/psychological statistical analysis, and smart PTM strategies.

Study design Randomized experimental study. Objective Compared to able-bodied people, patients with paraplegia due to thoracic spinal cord injury (SCI) are at an increased risk of heat illnesses during exercise due to impaired thermoregulatory responses. To overcome this limitation, we investigated the performance of three phase change material (PCM) cooling vests of different melting temperatures (Eijsvogels, #49) and coverage area of the trunk. Methods Sixteen participants were divided into three groups according to their injury level. All were tested for V20 full vest (20°C Tm, 75% coverage). Mid-thoracic and high-thoracic groups were tested for V14 vest (14°C Tm, 75% coverage). The mid-thoracic group was tested for V20 half vest (20°C Tm, 50% coverage). The participants performed a 30-min arm-crank exercise followed by a recovery period inside a controlled hot climatic chamber. The heart rate, segmental skin (Tskin), and core temperature (Tcore) values were recorded, and subjective questionnaires were taken. Results Compared to no vest (NV) test, all the vests showed an effective decrease in Tskin values of the trunk. However, the decrease in Tskin was not enough to induce a significant decrease in Tcore in all three groups. Mid-thoracic and low-thoracic groups showed a reduction in the increasing Tcore by the end of the exercise and recovery period. Finally, the level of thermal comfort was enhanced for the three groups. Conclusion The effectiveness of cooling vests for persons with paraplegia is dependent on injury level and thus the ratio of sensate to insensate skin. Future studies necessitate the investigation of the cooling effects of PCM vests at a lower Tm with a larger sample size.
