The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of Spirulina platensis extract (SPE) addition to the freezing extender on freezability, lipid peroxidation, ultrastructure alterations and fertilizing potentials of frozen-thawed buffalo bull spermatozoa. Semen samples were collected with artificial vagina from five adult fertile bulls and diluted with Tris-base extender containing SPE (1, 5, 10 and 20 μg/mL) or without SPE (control). Diluted semen was cooled to 4 °C throughout one hour and frozen in 0.25 mL straws: prior to being stored in liquid nitrogen. Cryopresreved spermatozoa were assessed for post-thawing sperm motility, viability, acrosomal integrity, ultrastructure changes, antioxidant activities, lipid peroxidation and fertility rate. The current results clearly indicated that adding 10μg/mL SPE to the freezing extender significantly improved (P< 0.05) post-thawing motility and decrease the percentage of acrosomal damage (51.67±6.02% and 16.33±1.46%, respectively) compared with the control (28.33±4.41% and 26.33±1.77%, respectively). Moreover, addition of 10 μg/mL SPE to the semen extender significantly diminished (P< 0.05) MDA concentration (10.66±2.40 nmol/10 9 ) compared with the control (22.66±4.26 nmol/10 9 ). Therefore, the present results revealed that addition of 10μgl/mL SPE to the freezing extender might improve semen quality and reduce cryodamage of the buffalo bull spermatozoa.

Diabetes, commonly known as diabetic millets, is a metabolic condition characterized by elevated blood sugar levels. This syndrome is typically attributed to a mix of genetic and environmental factors. Diabetes is characterized as a state of insufficient nutrient utilization despite an abundance of available resources. The reason for the inability of cells to ingest glucose despite its high concentration in the body is attributed to osmotic differences. Insulin, a hormone synthesized within the pancreas, facilitates the uptake of glucose by bodily cells, hence facilitating its conversion into usable energy. When the body's cells are unable to effectively absorb glucose, it results in the accumulation of glucose in the bloodstream. This can lead to acute metabolic issues such as ketoacidosis, as well as contribute to the development of chronic microvascular difficulties over time.

Nutraceuticals are bioactive or chemical compounds acclaimed for their valuable biological activities and health-promoting effects. The global community is faced with many health concerns such as cancers, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, etc. The effect of nutraceuticals is similar to pharmaceuticals, even though the term nutraceutical has no regulatory definition. The usage of nutraceuticals, to prevent and treat the aforementioned diseases, is limited by several features such as poor water solubility, low bioavailability, low stability, low permeability, low efficacy, etc. These downsides can be overcome by the application of the field of nanotechnology manipulating the properties and structures of materials at the nanometer scale. In this review, the linear and cyclic dextrin, formed during the enzymatic degradation of starch, are highlighted as highly promising nanomaterials- based drug delivery systems. The modified cyclic dextrin, cyclodextrin (CD)-based nanosponges (NSs), are well-known delivery systems of several nutraceuticals such as quercetin, curcumin, resveratrol, thyme essential oil, melatonin, and appear as a more advanced drug delivery system than modified linear dextrin. CD-based NSs prolong and control the nutraceuticals release, and display higher biocompatibility, stability, and solubility of poorly water-soluble nutraceuticals than the CD-inclusion complexes, or uncomplexed nutraceuticals. In addition, the well-explored CD-based NSs pathways, as drug delivery systems, are described. Although important progress is made in drug delivery, all the findings will serve as a source for the use of CD-based nanosystems for nutraceutical delivery. To sum up, our review introduces the extensive literature about the nutraceutical concepts, synthesis, characterization, and applications of the CD-based nano delivery systems that will further contribute to the nutraceutical delivery with more potent nanosystems based on linear dextrins.
