Abstract:Retinoblastoma is the most common type of eye cancer in infants and children. Probability of saving vision and survival depends upon two main factors: progression of the disease from unilateral to bilateral and severity of the disease. In order to effectively treat retinoblastoma and retain vision, it is crucial to focus treatment options on reducing toxicity and nonspecific targeting while enhancing drug delivery, cellular uptake, and accumulation of chemotherapeutic agents to their specific target sites. “…Although nutlin-3a is a potent drug that acts as a murine double minute (MDM2) antagonist and actively blocks p53-MDM2 interaction, it is a substrate for multidrug resistance proteins MRP-1 and Pgp. 134 Hence, its clinical application is limited. Curcumin, an established modulator of multidrug resistance (MDR) proteins, could augment the antitumor activity of nutlin-3a in drug resistant Y79 cells.…”

“…Furthermore, nanomedicines designed to contain more than one drug will be beneficial to the prognosis of retinoblastoma as it may encourage patients' compliance since the current treatment of this disease requires a combination of drugs. 159 …”

“…Furthermore, nanomedicines designed to contain more than one drug will be benecial to the prognosis of retinoblastoma as it may encourage patients' compliance since the current treatment of this disease requires a combination of drugs. 159 Optogenetic therapy is an emerging approach for treating retinal diseases. It involves the use of light to activate neurons or cells to express a light-sensitive protein with the potential to restore vision.…”
