An Unruptured Cerebral Aneurysm at the Origin of the Duplicated Middle Cerebral Artery

Abstract: A variety of cerebral vascular anomalies are widely applied, however anomalies of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) are relatively infrequent. The duplicated MCA (DMCA) is a MCA anomaly. Aneurysm arising from the origin of the DMCA is rare. Cerebral angiography in a 61-year-old female demonstrated a small (about 3 mm) saccular aneurysm located at the origin of the DMCA in the anterior direction. Considering the unusual location, the lesion was treated, regardless of the size. Aneurysmal characteristics of a bro… Show more

“…To the best of our knowledge, 33 cases of aneurysm originating from a DMCA have been reported to date [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 ]. Aneurysms in this location are rare and frequently present as a subarachnoid haemorrhage despite their small size.…”

“…There is little relevance of the occurrence of the aneurysms in the DMCA, because of their rarity. 7) Kai et al 6) classified the DMCA into two types: type A and type B. According to Kai's classification, type A DMCA arises at the top of the ICA, giving the impression of an early bifurcation.…”

“…Anatomical variation in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) are rare and classified into : duplicated MCA (DMCA), an accessory MCA, and fenestration of MCA 1,2,3,4 . The incidence of DMCA has been reported to be 0,7-2,9% on autopsy 4 , 0,81 % on magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) 3 and 0,24-1.5% on angiography 4,5 . We report a case of ruptured aneurysm at the origin of inferior part of duplicated middle cerebral artery.…”
