Analgesia and curative effect of pamidronate disodium combined with chemotherapy on elderly patients with advanced metastatic bone cancer

Abstract: The curative effect and adverse reactions of pamidronate disodium in elderly patients with advanced metastatic bone cancer were evaluated. A total of 160 elderly patients with advanced metastatic bone cancer admitted to Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University from February 2012 to January 2015, were divided into the chemotherapy group (n=60) that received routine therapy and the pamidronate disodium group (n=100) that received pamidronate disodium therapy based on the chemotherapy. Pain relief, analgesic tim… Show more

“…For example, pamidronate disodium has been investigated for its utility in treating skeletal metastases progression and the associated bone pain experienced by patients. However, results have been largely inconclusive and show no notable significant improvement to disease or symptom management ( 111 , 112 ). This may be a result of pamidronate disodium not being as potent as some of the more recently developed bisphosphate treatments available in the clinic, such as zoledronic acid ( 113 ).…”

“…10 This treatment also has an initial pain-relieving effect from its direct analgesic properties, but the exact pain-relieving mechanism is still being searched for. 11 The use of pamidronate contributes to the reduction of serum alkaline phosphatase (SAP). SAP level is a vital laboratory finding correlated with osteoblastic activity which is often applied as an important prognostic marker for FD and bone-related malignant tumors, such as osteosarcoma.…”
