Show more

“…During the past decades, many methods have been proposed for the feasibility analysis and the design of RD processes [16][17]. Thery et al [7] have developed a sequential and hierarchical approach for the design of reactive distillation column involving liquid phase reactions.…”

“…These results are also analyzed performing a postoptimal sensitivity analysis. Future developments will include (i) integration of the proposed optimization techniques and the feasibility analysis, 10 as a preliminary step, to improve the initialization and variable search range definition, (ii) optimization of the operational pressure, (iii) a more extensive comparison between equilibrium and nonequilibrium models, including the study of the influence of tray efficiency, and (iv) generalization of the proposed approach to a packed column.…”

“…The LaTEP laboratory (Pau, France) and the LGC laboratory (Toulouse, France) have been working since 1999 on the reactive distillation issue. Our works have covered the three previously mentioned aspects: design, experimental study, and simulation. The experimental studies are supported by a tray−catalytic distillation column provided by the French Institute of Petroleum (Institut Français du Pétrole) at Pau and by a section of a packed column at Toulouse, allowing experimental studies at the pilot plant level. In this contribution, we propose a MINLP formulation for optimal design of a catalytic distillation column based on a generic nonequilibrium (rate based) model.…”

“…stage by stage calculations. Thery (2002) and Thery, Meyer, and Joulia (2004) proposed a sequential study for the feasibility, synthesis and design of reactive distillation process based on equilibrium reaction. Firstly, the streams outside the units are evaluated by the ∞/∞ analysis.…”
