Analysing Inter-Areas Oscillations within the Interconnected Power System of Continental Europe using frequency domain simulations and signal analysis based on wide-area measurement data

Abstract: In this paper, inter area oscillations within the synchronous interconnected power system of Continental Europe are analysed. For this purpose the IFK's entire power grid frequency measurement system is presented. The measuring data is used for validation of simulation models, as well as for signal analyses of electromechanical oscillations. The analyses in this paper are focused on estimating frequencies of oscillation of dominant inter area modes during ambient conditions using a wavelet based method. On the… Show more

“…Also, the same data are used for inter-area oscillations analysis in [37]. The interconnected power system of Europe covers also power systems of some countries of north Africa (i.e., Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia) that are connected via two three-phase AC undersea cables, and also the power system of Turkey that is since 2010 connected via three 400-kV AC lines [37]. A loss of one generation unit occurred on September 29, 2010 in the southern region of Turkish power system and this disturbance propagated (due to active power imbalance) through the whole interconnected European power system.…”
