Analysis and Detection of S-Shaped NLFM Signal Based on Instantaneous Frequency

Abstract: The characteristics typical S-shaped Nonlinear Frequency Modulation (S-NLFM) signal are analyzed, and a detection method for this type of signal is also proposed. First of all, the instantaneous frequency of the S-NLFM signal based on sinusoid modulation and tangent modulation is obtained by phase unwrapping respectively. Then, two characteristics are obtained from instantaneous frequency. Consequently, a recognition method is proposed based on the two characteristics obtained in the previous step. At last, th… Show more

“…The synthesis methods, as well as the estimation of NLFM signal parameters, are developed and discussed. The issue is known both in radars [27,28,29] and sonars [30,31]. Unfortunately, most of these methods require certain assumptions, such as the phase being described by the P -th order polynomial.…”

“…A moving target causes the Doppler effect, which affects the performance of pulse compression. Although several studies have attempted at examining this problem, sidelobe reduction and narrowing of main lobe width continue to be attracting interest of researchers [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]. The present study focuses on new chirp waveforms to preserve the accuracy and to obtain reduced side lobes.…”
