Analysis and Performance of the Thomson Scattering Diagnostics on HT-7 Tokamak Based on I-EMCCD

Abstract: A visible light imaging Thomson scattering (VIS-TVTS) diagnostic system has been developed for the measurement of plasma electron temperature on the HT-7 tokamak. The system contains a Nd:YAG laser (λ = 532 nm, repetition rate 10 Hz, total pulse duration ≈ 10 ns, pulse energy > 1.0 J), a grating spectrometer, an image intensifier (I.I.) lens coupled with an electron multiplying CCD (EMCCD) and a data acquisition and analysis system. In this paper, the measurement capability of the system is analyzed. In additi… Show more

“…Gaseous impurity injections were widely used on EAST for diagnostic purposes, for example, argon puffing was mainly used to measure ion temperature and plasma rotation by X-ray crystal spectrometer (XCS) [13−15] . Nitrogen was injected for the calibration of the Thomson scattering (TS) diagnostic system [16,17] .…”

“…It shows that the relative gain increases with DAC and varies in the range of 1-367, and the maximum relative error in the multiple measurements is about 7%. The voltage of 6 kV between MCP125 and P43 phosphor screen provides the generation of 240 photons for every incident electron emitted from the MCP [10]. Overall speaking, the number of photons finally exiting the intensifier is:…”

“…TV Thomson scattering (TVTS) system based on TS principle is a promising technique for the measurements of edge electron temperature and density with high spectral resolution , which has previously been installed on the TEXTOR [9], HT-7 [10], and so on [11,12]. In contrast to the conventional TS system, the equipping of grating spectrometer and camera detectors make the TVTS system have the advantages of multipoint and high-precision spectral measurements.…”

“…Electron temperature and density is measured by Thomson scattering diagnostics. [21] Since the measured intensity of bremsstrahlung is presented by the counting rate of photons, equation (1) can be changed into…”
