Analysis by Vibrational Spectroscopy of Seaweed Polysaccharides with Potential Use in Food, Pharmaceutical, and Cosmetic Industries

Abstract: Phaeophyceae, Ochrophyta) are analyzed by spectroscopic techniques. The nature of the polysaccharides (with extraction and without any type of extraction) present in these seaweeds was determined with FTIR-ATR and FT-Raman analysis of extracted phycocolloids and ground dry seaweed.

“…-1 yang merupakan indikasi golongan sulfat di posisi C-4 struktur monomernya (Pereira, Saly, & Paulo, 2013). Lebih lanjut Maciel et al, (2008) mengatakan pita serapan 840-820 cm-1 (C-O-S) diindikasikan subtitusi dari 4-sulf at dan 6-sulfat pada unit monosakarida.…”

“…proteins, polysaccharides, phenolic compounds. The aim was to check characteristic absorption bands found in the literature [25,26] and confirmed by the commercial standards can be properly used. In this present study, the results for proteins, uronic acids, polysaccharides, phenolic and sulphated compounds are illustrated on Figure 4, Figure 5 and Table 2.…”

“…The main advantage of this technique compared to conventional methods (biochemical assays) is its rapidity in the acquisition of spectra, permitting a chemical fingerprinting of samples and then a view of macromolecules contents. It permitted then considerable time saving in terms of experimentation [20,25,26] . In a very short time, absorbance spectra with high resolution and good reproducibility are obtained.…”

“…1, supporting information). The presence of two strong peaks at 1621 and 1416 cm -1 is assigned to asymmetric and symmetric stretching vibrations of carboxyl groups of alginate (Broderick et al 2006;Karaki et al 2013;Pereira et al 2013). The anomeric region of carbohydrate, between 950 and 750 cm -1 , is the most discussed in the literature (Mathlouthi and Koenig 1986): the band at 948 cm -1 (C-O stretching vibration of uronic acid residues) and the small band at 903 cm -1 are assigned to C-H of α-Lguluronic acid.…”
