Analysis of Binocular Visual Field Area on Blowout Fracture.

Abstract

In the following study, examinations of binocular visual field prior and subsequent to surgery were analyzed. As a control group, the binocular visual fields of 50 disease-free subjects ranging in age from their teens to their 50s (10subjects in each age group) were also measured to obtain the areas and the mean value for each age group. Using the mean values of the control group as a reference, the patients' binocular visual field areas before and after surgery were divided by the mean values of the binocular visual field areas for each age group to determine the percentages defined as comparative areas. The mean of the comparative areas before surgery was 30.3% while the mean after surgery was 71.3% and expansion of the areas was observed after surgery in all cases. Use of the comparative areas made it easier to understand the improvement of binocular visual field areas in the cases of blowout fracture before and after surgery, as well as facilitating comparison of these areas with normal binocular visual fields.
