Analysis of Cases in Which a Biopsy Specimen Is Positive and an Excised Lesion Is Negative for Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer

Abstract: showed no significant correlation between central line-days and rate of CLABSIs (P = .95, determined by the Pearson χ 2 test). Discussion | Burn ICUs have been plagued by higher rates of nosocomial infections and associated complications than other ICUs, and CLABSIs have been an important contributor to those rates. 4 Since the implementation of a multidisciplinary and multimodal CLABSI bundle customized to our BTICU, we have had no CLABSIs. We also have significantly reduced the number of central line-days, l… Show more

“…15 Up to 20% to 40% of BCC biopsy specimens with positive margins on initial biopsy or excision show no residual tumor on second excision after additional histologic sectioning. 16–18 In the study cohort of the authors, 14 of 15 re-excisions did not reveal any residual tumor, including 10 of 11 specimens that were resectioned at 100 to 150 μm. The local immune response is thought to play a role in spontaneously regressing BCCs, which demonstrate increased infiltration of CD3 + and CD4 + T cells and increased expression of the interleukin-2 receptor compared with nonregressing BCCs.…”

“…So, Jeyakumar et al [6] recommended red flags of diagnosis in simple lumps [6]. On the other hand, there is not always complete correlation between biopsy and final tissue examination, as mentioned by Han et al in a retrospective study on results of tissue examination reports of 1867 non-melanoma skin cancer specimen [11]. We had similar problem between 2 nd and 3 rd surgery tissue examination, even between frozen section examination and final tissue evaluation that seems to be related to…”
