Analysis of Casing Strength after Casing Wear in Ultra-Deep Rock Salt Formation

Abstract: To alleviate the problems of casing collapse induced by the coupling effect of rock salt creep and casing wear, the effects of salt creep, attrition rate and casing abrasive position on the equivalent stress on casings in non-uniform in-situ stress field is analyzed by finite-difference model with worn casing, cement and salt formation. It indicates that, creep reduces the yield strength of worn casing to a certain extent; Equivalent stress on casings is bigger and more non-uniform when the abrasion is more se… Show more

“…In the process of drilling, the drill string is often drilling in the casing, which leads to the inner wall of casings wear. So wall thickness of wear casing is thinner and tensile strength, the collapse strength and internal pressure strength of wear casing decrease [1]. Clearly, it is the existence of defects that weakens the acceptance of load of the pit shaft.…”

“…The production casing is a critical component to link a salt cavern with ground facilities. The failure of production casing is one of the major reseasons for leakage accidents in underground gas storages [4]. Once casing rupture occurred, a large amount of gas would release and then a mushroom-shaped gas cloud would form, which would grow in size, and rise due to momentum and buoyancy of the discharged gas.…”
