Analysis of Expression and Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms of INHA Gene Associated with Reproductive Traits in Chickens

Abstract: Inhibin α (INHA) is a candidate gene controlling ovulation in poultry. As the functional center of inhibin, INHA is a molecular marker associated with egg-laying performance. The objective of the current study was to analyze the expression differences of INHA in reproductive system and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associations with reproductive traits in chickens. A total of 260 LuHua chickens (barred-feather chicken) were adopted. Twelve SNPs were detected in INHA gene. Among the exonic SNPs, three … Show more

“…The expression of HEP21 was associated with the development and function of chicken oviduct ( Lim and Song, 2014 ), and SNPs in the HEP21 gene have been reported to be related with sexual maturity ( Chen et al, 2020 ). INHA protein is secreted by the avian granulosa cells of preovulatory follicles, and its gene expression level changed with the follicle development ( Cui et al, 2019 ).…”

“…Subsequently, Western blots were performed, as previously described [ 27 ], with the following primary and secondary antibodies: rabbit anti-chicken ER-α and ER-β (Abcam, Cambridge, UK; 1:1000), goat anti-rabbit secondary antibodies (Zen-Bio, Chengdu, China), and β-actin (Zen-Bio) was used as a reference.…”

“…Inhibin can regulate the release of FSH from pituitary cells, and the inactivation of inhibin leads to elevated FSH levels, ovarian hyperstimulation, and abortion in female mice [ 61 ]. INHA was reported to be a potential regulator of ovarian egg production in Luhua chickens [ 62 ]. We speculated that this gene has an important role in the egg production performance of hens.…”
