The Landscape Act was established in Japan in 2004, and many local, government-settled landscape plans were prescribed in it. This act aims to enhance the "attractiveness of urban area" as well as the "attractiveness of landscape". When promoting the charm of landscapes and urban areas at night, lighting and illuminance play very important roles. Therefore, this study focuses on the landscape design standards in landscape plans. Authors extracted the restrictions on actions related to lighting and their intentions from the landscape plans of 20 designated cities, 47 core cities, and 37 special cities. These were then classifi ed and arranged, and their characteristics were analyzed.
